The £5m project is due to open in 2025 in Digbeth’s Floodgate Street Arches.

Shipping container leisure concept Boxpark has secured planning permission approval to develop a new site in Digbeth, Birmingham.

Boxpark will be launching a £5m food hall in 2025 under four of the Floodgate Street Arches, spanning nearly 17,000 sq ft.

Plans for this were first announced in October 2023.

The 15-year lease covers 10 kitchen units, four internal bars set across two floors and 10,500 sq ft of external space offering alfresco dining and events.

Boxpark Birmingham has committed to showcasing local, independent traders, as well as artists, creatives and performers from the area.

The project is expected to create 200 jobs and marks the company’s first site in the Midlands.

It comes after Boxpark launched its first regional site in Liverpool in April this year, with further plans in place for its sister brand Boxhall Bristol.

Ben McLaughlin, chief operating officer at Boxpark, said: “We’re thrilled to have received planning approval and are excited to move forward with the opening of our new site in this vibrant city. This will be a big project for the team and our aim is to carefully restore the Floodgate Street Arches while giving it a new lease of life.

“Digbeth’s eclectic and creative business community is perfect match for our ethos of supporting and championing local, independent talent. This marks an exciting new chapter for Boxpark, and we look forward to contributing to the area’s continued growth.”

Boxpark was founded in 2011 and has since opened three sites in London’s Shoreditch, Croydon, Wembley and most recently Camden.
