Wholesaler Booker has become the first company to hold all four certifications to the Carbon Trust Standard.
The certifications recognise reductions in carbon emissions, waste output, water use and the achievement of zero waste to landfill status.
The audits show that the Booker Group has reduced overall carbon emissions by 3.7%, meaning that the business has delivered ten years of absolute carbon emission reductions despite sales and delivery growth.
Over the past two years water usage has also been reduced by 12% and a waste reduction of 6% has been achieved.
Some of the initiatives supporting this achievement included the continued rolling out of LED lighting, upgrading to a lower emission HGV fleet, improved vehicle telematics, and dealing with food waste through both local charity donations and the use of anaerobic digestion to create energy.
"We are delighted to be the first company that holds these four Carbon Trust Standards," said Catherine Marston, sustainability manager for the Booker Group. "This is a reflection on how seriously we take our responsibility to reduce our impact on the environment.
Booker has held the Carbon Trust Standard for Carbon Emissions for a decade and is the only food wholesaler who has 10 years of certified carbon emission reductions.
