The chef opened the restaurant with his brother Matt in late 2021.
Brothers Matt and Will Devlin will relocate their East Sussex restaurant Birchwood in 2025 after roughly three years of trading.
Birchwood opened in October 2021 within Flimwell Park, a 46-acre woodland development.
It was chef Will’s third restaurant at the time and part of his Acre hospitality group, which includes the green Michelin-starred Small Holding kitchen and farm in Kilndown.
The Devlins said they wanted to activate the break clause in their current lease, otherwise it would mean having to stay at Flimwell Park “for the foreseeable future”.
In a joint statement, they said: “Birchwood was born out of excitement and innovation, and we have a responsibility to constantly build upon this. Our aim is to build a bigger, bolder and better Birchwood, with our new location in the works.
“We will grow our events, build our hub for food and drink and grow and retail our own produce. As ever at Acre we don’t like to sit still, we are constantly dreaming of ways to improve and push ourselves and increase our impact. Relocation is a hugely exciting step and an opportunity to take Birchwood to the next level.”
Birchwood Flimwell will hold its last service on 23 March 2025.
The Kent and Sussex-based Acre Group also includes Birchwood Studio and its recently launched multi-use events space, Forestside.
