Former BHS to become 170-bedroom hotel

Plans to transform a former BHS in Stratford-upon-Avon into a 170-bedroom hotel have got the green light from the local authorities.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council has given planning permission to turn the Grade II-listed property into a hotel with a gym, restaurant and bar.

The property was previously a BHS until the retail chain collapsed in 2016. The site has stood empty since and is in “desperate need of repair”.

A report in the Stratford-upon-Avon Herald linked Bespoke Hotels with the operation, but the group did not wish to comment at this stage.

A spokesperson for the project commented: “We are delighted to have secured planning consent for the former BHS unit in Stratford. We are now working through the planning conditions associated with the application, as well as appointing a contractor for the works.

“We hope to share further details on timings when these elements have concluded.”
