Benugo to operate three outlets at Glasgow’s Burrell Collection

Catering company Benugo, a subsidiary of WSH, is to open three sites at the Burrell Collection in Glasgow, which is due to reopen tomorrow following a £68.25m refurbishment.

A restaurant, coffee shop and espresso bar will all open at the A-listed home of the Burrell Collection in Pollok Country Park, Glasgow’s largest green space. The contract is for five years.

The museum houses the art collection of Sir William Burrell and Constance, Lady Burrell, and is managed by Glasgow Life on behalf of Glasgow City Council.

Phil Cass, Benugo operations director in Scotland, said: “The Burrell Collection is such a landmark opening for Scotland and we are excited to be part of it. We can’t wait to bring our impeccably sourced Scottish produce, delicious food, carbon-neutral coffee and local West Brewery beers to a new audience.”

Duncan Dornan, head of Glasgow Life Museums, said: “The Burrell Collection will be a draw for millions of people in the years to come to spend a day looking at the beautiful artworks on display. They will want refreshments in keeping with the exceptional quality of the collection and its home. Benugo staff have been working hard preparing for the reopening of the Burrell Collection and have developed menus and meal options that will appeal to everyone and become another great reason to come into the Burrell Collection.”

The restaurant’s breakfast menu will offer a ‘full Scottish’, while the lunch menu will include panko-breaded Campbells of Linlithgow haggis bites; Burrell beef burger with Ayrshire streaky bacon; pan-fried Scrabster cod fillet with lentils, crispy kale, tenderstem broccoli, parsley and caper dressing; and homemade sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel sauce and Isle of Arran vanilla ice-cream. There will always be halal, vegan and vegetarian options available.

Benugo was founded in 1998 in London's Clerkenwell by brothers Ben and Hugo Warner and was bought by Westbury Street Holdings (WSH) in 2007. The brand operates foodservice sites at venues including Historic Environment Scotland (including Edinburgh, Stirling and Urquhart Castles), National Museum of Scotland, the V&A, the Royal Parks, the British Museum, BFI Southbank and John Lewis stores, including in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
