Craft brewery and bar St John at Hackney Brewery to open in June
Craft brewery, bar and eatery St John at Hackney Brewery will open on 16 June in Hackney Central Arches
Co-founders Luke Scanlon and brewer Ryan Robbins have said they want to "create an east London brewery with a clear purpose for good". Adding: "The vision, heart and soul is to create world class beers and a warm, welcoming space that everyone can enjoy while giving back to and supporting the local community."
Robbins learnt about brewing in America and has said his range of craft beers will be American in style while drawing influence from the UK, Belgium and Germany, with aromatic flavours and low bitterness.
The arches will have a utilitarian aesthetic with the right arch housing the brewery while the left contains the bar area and kitchen, which will showcase restored pews from the neighbouring St John at Hackney church around concrete tables. The venue will also feature a large outside seating area.
The kitchen, incorporating an open barbecue, will host Greek Cypriot concept Éla by Emilio Stavrou, which will serve small plates and sharing dishes.
Stavrou has said the concept will "capture the spirit of generosity and hospitality that is such an intrinsic part of Greek culture".
