Michel Roux to open new restaurant at the Langham, London

Michel Roux is to take over Dom Taylor’s Good Front Room restaurant space at the Langham, London, with the launch of Chez Roux next month.

Taylor won a six-month residency at the hotel’s Palm Court following his victory on the television show Five Star Kitchen, which featured Roux as a judge.

He will serve his “reimagined and elevated Caribbean food” until the pop-up restaurant’s closure on 30 April.

Chez Roux has been inspired by Michel Roux’s childhood memories of life in rural Kent in the 1960s with his father, Albert Roux, who worked as a private chef for the Cazalet family.

It will also pay homage to the first menus from Le Gavroche in 1967, which closed after more than 50 years of trading in January.

Dishes include Roux’s take on Welsh rarebit with stout and Montgomery Cheddar, lamb chops reform taken from Alexis Soyer’s 1830s recipe and grilled lobster with garlic butter, fries and béarnaise.

An exclusive collection of cocktails, such as the Queen’s Dubonnet and the Madeira Cobbler, will also be available.

The restaurant will be open for dinner service only.

Roux, who oversees all food and beverage at the Langham, London, said: “I have such fond memories of growing up at Fairlawne, where my father spent seven years cooking for the Cazalet family. From relaxed lunches to extravagant dinner parties, it’s safe to say everyone ate very well! Dad had to learn the great British classics, but used all his French technique and skills to cook for the family and esteemed guests.

“The menu at Chez Roux is inspired by these early memories. Many of the recipes that were popular during the 1960s have been consigned to history, yet there is so much to love about the dishes I remember from this time – British classics combined with traditional French techniques. So, with a touch of nostalgia and much excitement, I can’t wait for guests to try the menus at Chez Roux at the Langham, London.”

Chez Roux follows the closure of Roux at the Landau which was announced last year. Mimosa from chef Jean-François Piège opened in its place this month.

Earlier this month Roux also announced the upcoming launch of a new restaurant and cocktail bar, Trocadero's, at Crossbasket Castle in Glasgow.
