Thai restaurant Mango Tree in London’s Belgravia appears to have closed following a forfeiture of the lease.

A sign on the restaurant seen by The Caterer, dated 23 July, read: “Take notice, that the landlord has today re-entered and secured vacant possession of the property situated at and known as ground floor restaurant, with ancillary basement at 46 Grosvenor Place of 40 Grosvenor Place, London, SW1 (“the property”) by changing the locks thereby forfeiting the lease, in accordance with the landlord’s power under clause 6.1 determining any interest you have in the property.

“As a consequence of the re-entry, the lease is forfeited and the property has been secured.”

The notice, which was addressed to Coca Restaurants (UK) Limited, reiterated: “Any attempt to enter the premises without the landlord’s authority may be a criminal offence and result in a prosecution.”

Diners are unable to make reservations on Mango Tree’s website, as it states: “Sorry bookings are not currently available.”

Mango Tree was founded in 2001 by restaurateur Eddie Lim, who also owns Singapore Garden in London’s Swiss Cottage and Chai Wu in London’s Harrods.

Mango Tree is believed to have been named in J K Rowling’s novel The Silkworm and has also appeared on MasterChef.

It served Thai dishes according to four culinary regions, such as Thai fish cakes with sweet chilli sauce and minced prawns, deep fried cod with mixed peppers and pineapple and corn-fed chicken in Thai green curry.

In Coca Restaurants’ filleted accounts to 30 December 2022 filed on Companies House, the shareholders’ funds had made a loss of £242,954, almost double the losses recorded in the previous year (£134,460).

Meanwhile, creditors: amounts falling due within one year for 2022 had risen to £929,804, compared to £107,431 in 2021.

Mango Tree has been contacted for comment.
