British Egg Week 2017: 13 great egg dishes around the UK
This week is British Egg Week - a week launched by British Lion Eggs in order to raise awareness of the benefits of eggs.
So to celebrate, we have put together a list of 13 egg-ceptional dishes on offer around the UK. Time to get egg-ucated…
1. Bakers and Co, Bristol
The menu at Californian-inspired cafe Bakers and Co is seasonal and therefore constantly changing, however there's always a couple of dishes to fulfil cravings including: slow cooked black beans in a corn tortilla with red and green salsa and fried eggs; or this middle white pork belly on potatoes and fried egg below.
2. Cantina, Ventnor, Isle of Wight
Cantina is a café restaurant, bakery and kitchen in Ventnor, the Isle of Wight. The 22-cover restaurant offers brunch and dinner between Tuesday and Sunday. Dishes include avocado, tomato, feta, chilli and poached egg on sourdough toast; and the okonomiyaki cheese omelette (below).

3. Mr Holden's Manchester Egg, Manchester
The Manchester Egg - a pickled egg wrapped in black pudding and sausage meat coated in a golden crumb - was the brainchild of chef Ben Holden.
The cracking idea to add a twist to the national favourite came to him one day in 2010 while eating a scotch egg in a local pub, the Castle in the northern quarter. The egg is now sold in pubs around Manchester, including the Castle.

4. Baba Ganoush, Kendal, Cumbria
Baba Ganoush is a foodshop, canteen and bakehouse in Kendal. Food is available at the foodshop all day including quiches; tarts; waffles topped with spiced maple-glazed ham, chorizo, white beans and a fried egg; and meringue pies, like the one below.

5. Eggbreak, London
Eggbreak in London's Notting Hill is a restaurant dedicated to eggs. It serves Turkish eggs; Levantine eggs; Calabrian eggs; Mexican omelettes… every kind of egg! Popular dishes include eggs and avocado on toast; crab cake with poached eggs, sriracha hollandaise and spinach; and shakshuka.

6. Moose Coffee, Liverpool
American diner inspired cafe chain Moose Coffee has three sites in Liverpool and one in Manchester. Its aim is to "provide an American Canadian influenced breakfast and brunch experience with an authentic short order menu." As one egg is never un oeuf, thankfully there are eggs on pretty much everything on the menu…

7. The Savoy, London
The Savoy's famous omelette Arnold Bennett was originally created by Georges Escoffier in 1897. It was hatched when author Arnold Bennett requested an omelette which contained smoked haddock. The delicacy is still served at the Savoy Grill restaurant today.

8. Tamper Coffee, Sheffield
Bringing a taste of New Zealand's coffee culture to Sheffield, Tamper coffee's menu features a french toast dish that changes weekly - and in our eyes, french toast definitely counts as an egg dish. Last week it was Nutella French toast with banana nuggets and mixed berries, this week it's coconut cream and tropical fruits (below).

9. Fortnum and Mason, London
Fortnum and Mason created the first Scotch egg in 1738 as an on-the-go food item for busy people. Over 250 years later the Scotch egg is still available to buy at Fortnum and Mason . It's made with outdoor-reared pork, a breadcrumb coating and an egg-splosive runny yolk.

10. The Saddleback Farm Shop, Berkshire
The Saddleback Farm Shop is a family-run farm shop and tea room in Brightwalton. Breakfast is served until midday, lunch is served until 3pm and afternoon tea until 5pm. It serves a menu of homemade, locally sourced, homegrown food such as the quiche below.

11. Duck and Waffle, London
It would be rude not to include the Duck and Waffle, which is named after a dish featuring a fried egg! Found on the 40th floor of the Heron Tower, it serves egg-celent dishes such as the Angus beef tartare; tenderstem broccoli with a poached hen's egg; and the famous Duck and Waffle - crispy leg confit with fried duck egg and mustard maple syrup on a waffle (below).

12. Purnell's, Birmingham
Ok, so this isn't egg-sactly an egg, however it does include custard, and does look like an egg. It's chef Glynn Purnell's Burnt English custard egg surprise which won top marks in the 2008 BBC Two programme Great British Menu!

13. Meraki, London
Meraki is a Greek restaurant located in Fitzrovia, London. It offers dishes inspired by the Greek islands such as Scallops Avgolemono (egg-lemon sauce); and rosti Greek style crunchy potatoes with sunny side-up eggs, truffle and Cretan butter (below).
