The TM31 power blender from Thermomix

Dubbed the "Ferrari of blenders" by Dominic Robinson, head chef at Tom Aikens' eponymous London restaurant, the Thermomix TM31 is a 10-in-one compact appliance that can weigh, cook, stir and blend.

This intelligent power blender incorporates electronic scales and a Veroma steaming basket, and performs its tricks with just one blade (with speeds from 40rpm to 10,200rpm) along with temperature control from 37°C to 120°C.

It can grate, mill, purée, grind, blend, cook, boil, simmer, steam, crush, whisk, emulsify, knead, chop and mince. The Thermomix can produce hollandaise sauce in just four minutes, crème for cooked crème brûlée in less than 12 minutes, fruit sorbets in less than five minutes and whisked and heated zabaglione in eight minutes, and can hold chocolate at 37°C.

Features include reversible blade direction for gentle stirring, a soft start for blending hot liquids, a turbo button for top-speed pulsing, a kneading button and an electronic timer. Made by Vorwerk of Germany, it costs £640 plus VAT.
