Pasta King uses pasta made from 100% durum wheat and a bolognese sauce consisting of minced beef in a sun-ripened tomato sauce with mushrooms and herbs.

At the Pasta King development kitchen, a product development team creates a promotional sauce every three months. There are about 30 meat, vegetarian and seafood sauces available, including Chicken Tikka; Milano Mushroom; Salmon, Tomato and Garlic; and Zingy Peppers. In 2004 the company reduced the salt levels in all sauces by 40% and in 2005 received a Grade A Global Standard for Food Safety and Production.

Judges, aged from five to 12, commented that the pasta was "cooked perfectly" and the sauce "has the perfect amount of herbs". Others commented that they liked the "swirly pasta shapes" and that the sauce "has a nice flavour with lots of tomato and mushrooms".

Pasta King's products are prepared from a free-on-loan self-contained pasta bar where precooked pasta is instantly refreshed at the point of sale and topped with one if its sauces.
