Nut-free treats from It's Nut Free
The struggle to find nut-free foods for her daughter, who has a severe nut allergy, prompted businesswoman Angela Russell to found It's Nut Free in 2002, and its catalogue now includes a wide range of cakes, confectionery, flapjacks and biscuits that will not trigger a potentially fatal case of anaphylactic shock in vulnerable customers.
Nut allergy or intolerance is believed to affect one in 24 people in the UK, and security at the group's North Yorkshire site is so strong that staff are banned from eating nuts even 24 hours before coming on shift.
The foods are made to traditional family recipes, are free from eggs and seeds, and are suitable for vegetarians too. Among the new products in the pipeline is a low-fat, low-sugar Apricot and Raisin Baked Bar.
Earlier this year, It's Nut Free was appointed the sole supplier of nut-free foods to the NHS.
