Lincoln & York announces CSR targets

UK coffee roaster Lincoln & York has announced the roll-out of a new CSR policy built around three key pillars: the local community, coffee community and the environment.

The new policy, voted for by 95% of Lincoln & York's employee workforce, has set targets for each pillar set to be achieved by 2024, with a goal to deliver on as many of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals as possible.

Operating from North Lincolnshire, Lincoln & York's roots are embedded in the local community, and the first strand of the CSR policy focuses on creating shared value for the business through giving back to its community. The policy sets out that by 2024, 10% of the workforce will be recruited through local apprentices, and the roaster aims to work closely with colleges to develop employment skills among the local population. In addition, the roaster pledges to deliver 100 charity days a year, allowing for employees to pursue their charitable interests and fundraising.

The second strand of the CSR push will focus on targeting the coffee community, through developing close-knit relationships with contacts in coffee origins and improving their livelihood. To remain in line for the government's 2050 net zero emissions target, the third strand of Lincoln & York's policy is focused on setting ambitious environmental targets that will drive the business towards not just meeting the standard but exceeding the benchmark.

James Sweeting, managing director of Lincoln & York, commented: "We've worked on fine tuning our CSR policy for a while to identify and address the most prominent challenges and areas where we can make profound impact. It is also important that our strategy is reflective of our company values, so I'm extremely pleased that the overwhelming number of our workforce support our direction.

"We're on a mission to help Britain drink better coffee. For us this means covering all aspects of the coffee industry, from sourcing beans, to providing jobs in our factories for local apprentices. As we continue to expand across Europe, we hope to attract more customers, who share our passion for creating sustainable products of the highest quality."
