Lactalis celebrate trio of cheddar award wins

Lactalis Foodservice is celebrating success at this year's Royal Highland Show, with leading Scottish cheese brands Seriously Strong and Orkney winning a trio of awards.

Seriously Strong took gold in the Extra Mature Cheddar category, whilst Orkney Mature White Cheddar achieved silver in the Vintage category.

The Orkney creamery was originally set up in 1946 to utilise surplus milk which became available after service men and women who were drafted to the islands were sent home after the Second World War.

Still created from milk produced solely on Orkney, the cheddar's distinctive taste can be attributed to its island surroundings, but also to the unique ‘dry-stir' production method which differentiates Orkney from all other cheddars and ensured the cheese was granted Protective Geographical Indication (PGI) status in 2013.
