Fusion snacks from Niku

A new premium brand of ethnic savoury snacks to accompany beer, wine, cider and adult soft drinks has been launched by Niku's Snacks.

The first two products were created by Indian-born Niku Short to reflect the fusion of European and Asian tastes on which she was raised. Both are based on popped corn with spice seasoning and sunflower oil, but no artificial colours or MSG.

She adapted Bollywood Masalla (masalla means a mixture of flavours in Gujarati) from a traditional family recipe, and the snack, which comes in 100g packs, incorporates poppadums and chilli peanuts.

Mexican Masalla adds Mexican chilli tortillas and chilli-infused chickpeas to the popped corn treat and is supplied in 125g packs.

Both sell in cases of 12 packs and the minimum order is for five cases. The company is currently setting up a distribution network for food service customers.
