Finalists announced for Dolmio and Uncle Ben's Foodservice Student Catering Challenge

Mars Foodservice has announced the finalists for its Dolmio and Uncle Ben's Foodservice Student Catering Challenge.

Eight students will battle it out in a live cook-off taking place during the Great Hospitality Show at the NEC, Birmingham on 23 January.

The finalists include: Catherine Worley, North Hertfordshire College; Jan Au, University of West London; Zoe Taylor, Doncaster College; Harry Tunnicliffe, North Hertfordshire; Tom Poskitt, Doncaster College; Jack Reynolds, University College Birmingham; Samantha White, Doncaster College; Nicole Watt, North Hertfordshire College.

Kicking off at 9.30am, the students will have one hour to demonstrate their skills and serve two dishes suited for a casual dining menu.

Willem Fijten, culinary product design scientist in the Mars Global Product Development team, said: "Not only am I extremely impressed by the professionalism shown by the students with their entries, but I'm excited to judge the final - the finalists of which are no doubt among the rising stars of the industry. The chance to compete at the UK's leading hospitality show is a fantastic opportunity and I'm delighted that Mars Foodservice has been able to support upcoming talent in their quest to join the fast-paced industry that I know and love - hospitality!"
