Burco employees smash Guinness World Record at Hotelympia

The team from Burco, part of Glen Dimplex Professional Appliances, have claimed a Guinness World Record at Hotelympia this week.

The record attempt, undertaken to highlight the new range of Burco Manual and Auto Fill boilers, saw a team of 12 employees make a massive 1,608 cups of tea in just one hour, breaking the previous record held by Devonshire tea by 883 cups.

Working to strict Guinness World Record criteria, the team used a total of nine British-manufactured Burco manual-fill boilers across three serving stations to make three different varieties of Taylors of Harrogate teas. Each of the teas had to be made using water prepared to Taylors' recommended brewing temperature and each had to be allowed to brew for the designated time. Once brewed, the teas were poured into 5oz specialty cups supplied by leading disposables company Huhtamaki.

The cups of tea were sold to exhausted runners of the Hotelympia 10k for a suggested donation of 50p, which allowed Glen Dimplex to donate over £300 to industry charity Springboard.

Jon Usher, head of UK sales and marketing, said: "A Guinness World Records title is like a holy grail and therefore it is a significant achievement for both Burco and Glen Dimplex Professional Appliances to be able to call ourselves holders.

"Having the support of companies such as Taylors of Harrogate and Huhtamaki has been an enormous help, while the kindness of Fresh Montgomery and Springboard to allow us to hold the attempt at such a superb event meant that we had a great crowd to cheer us on."
