Tom-áta is a new baseline tomato sauce designed to add an authentic African taste to Afro-Caribbean and other international cuisines. It has been developed by Jollofé, a supplier of healthy chilled and frozen African ready-meals containing less than 5% fat and 1% salt, with the help of Knowledge Connect, an organisation that helps London businesses develop new products.
The sauce was developed by Jollofé managing director, baker and chef Christine-Ade Olatunji and was inspired by the sauce her mother used to grind from tomatoes, peppers and herbs in Nigeria. She describes the sauce as "a taste of Africa". It has a long shelf life, can be frozen, and is available in three strengths - medium, hot, and hot-hot - and three sizes (2.3 litre, 1.2 litre, and 50cl).
