Green light for new 60-bedroom hotel at Warwick Castle

A new 60-bedroom hotel at Warwick Castle will extend the opportunity for guests to stay overnight at the West Midlands tourist attraction.

This week, Warwick District Council's planning committee granted permission to Merlin Entertainments, the owner of Warwick Castle, to build the medieval-themed, two-storey hotel within the main car park.

The new building will join existing accommodation at the castle, including 28 wooden lodges, glamping tents for 37 families, and two 'chamber suites' in a 14th-century tower.

The hotel will be linked via an elevated walkway to the existing Knight's Village restaurant, which will undergo an extension. Additional eating space will be provided by new decking adjacent to the restaurant.

A spokesperson for Merlin Entertainments described the hotel as "sensitive to the unique and historic setting" of Warwick Castle with "the potential to increase tourism revenue in the region and create much-needed jobs".

Work on the hotel is expected to start at the end of the year with its opening expected by Christmas 2023.
