Royal Lancaster London first hotel to install virtual events space

The Royal Lancaster London is understood to be the first hotel to install an XR mixed reality production studio and event space.

The 411-bedroom hotel will be able to host virtual, hybrid or live events in the SmartStudio in partnership with Smart AV when the property reopens on 27 August, for both live audiences and virtual attendees.

The studio features a 20sq m extended reality (XR) stage with LED backdrop and floor, audio, broadcast cameras and TV-ready lighting and is situated in the hotel's Westbourne suite.

Other hotels already have TV studios, but not extended reality technology capabilities, which is why it is believed to be the first of its kind in a hotel.

Smart AV has invested in the equipment and charges for usage, while the hotel charges a room hire fee. Bookings are already open for the facility.
