Welsh Food Scholar revealed

Berwyn Davies, 20, a commis chef at North Wales restaurant-with-rooms Plas Bodegroes has been named inaugural Welsh Food Scholar.

Davies beat five other finalists at a cook off held at the Marriott hotel in Cardiff last week.

Judges Brain Turner, Bryn Williams, James and Chris Tanner and Martin Blunos concluded the young chef had passion and maturity beyond his years, which was demonstrated in his work methods.

Davies wins a working holiday starting in the New Year that will take him around the world to destinations in Dubai, Hong Kong, Australia and the USA.

He also receives a set of engraved cooking pans from All Clad Cookware and a year's supply of cooking wine.

Michelin-starred Plas Bodegroes is headed by chef Chris Chown.
