Umbrella Project to open second London bar

Bar company Umbrella Project is set to open its second site, the Sun Tavern, this autumn

It will launch in late September on Bethnal Green Road and will be open seven days a week from the early morning until 1am.

It follows on from Umbrella Project's first bar, the Discount Suit Company, on Petticoat Lane Market, which opened in January this year.

This new bar will have classic cocktails, ales and bar snacks available throughout the day. It will also serve punches in vintage punch bowls using 18th century recipes, as well as a large selection of Irish whiskies, poitín, and a number of weekly changing ‘local hero' ales.

In the morning the bar will serve pastries and freshly brewed coffees from Bethnal Green's Square Mile roastery. The Sun Tavern has a capacity for 100 people and the venue will also be available for events and private hire.

The site dates back to 1851 and some notable regulars of the pub over the years included the Kray twins.

The team behind the Umbrella Project include Andy Kerr (who was previously at Columbo Group, All Star Lanes and Living Ventures), Stephen Thompson and Ali Tatton (both of Mixology Events). They plan to expand to a third site by the end of the year.
