Sushisamba to bring Latin American and Japanese fusion to Covent Garden

Latin American and Japanese fusion restaurant brand Sushisamba is set to open a new 9,000 sq ft site in Covent Garden.

Sushisamba combine Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine, with dishes including a Brazilian Churrasco Rio Grande of ribeye, chorizo and aged picanha, and a Moqueca Mista seafood stew with shrimp, squid and sea bass.

The site, located at the top of the Grade II-listed Market Building, will offer views of the iconic plaza, while interior design will be managed by the Antwerp-based Too Many Agencies, which was founded by Will Erens.

Covent Garden will be the brand's second location in the city, following on from their Liverpool Street location which opened in 2012.

John Um, Sushisamba's corporate chef, said: "The history, culture and revitalised energy of Covent Garden is deeply inspiring,"

"We see the iconic nature of Covent Garden as a way for us to push our culinary creativity even further and put a fresh twist on this location that will individualise it from our other locations."

They will face stiff competition - ZELA, Ibiza's celebrity backed Japanese and Mediterranean fusion restaurant, is set to open a 100-cover outlet around the corner in the ME London Hotel.

Other new openings in the area include the St John Bakery, the Fergus Henderson brand's first permanent standalone retail site which is set to open on 21 September in Neal's Yard.
