Rök smokehouse and bar to open in east London this August
Rök, a Nordic smokehouse restaurant and bar, will be opening in Shoreditch, London on 10 August.
An old café, situated on Curtain Road, has been transformed into a 40-seat restaurant and bar open for lunch, dinner and late night drinks, with a downstairs cocktail bar expected to follow.
Rök, which means ‘smoke' in Swedish, will use techniques such as brining, pickling and smoking, applied to British ingredients. Consultant chef Matt Young has created a menu consisting of smoked meat, cures, pickles and vegetable dishes commonly found across Northern Europe, as well as a range of salads and vegetarian dishes such as charred broccoli, pumpkin seeds and toasted almonds.
Typical dishes at the launch will include smoked short rib of beef with birch syrup, duck leg with bacon and lingonberry jam, and sweet pickled cucumbers.
British meats will be supplied by Cobble Lane Cured, which has developed a range of products specifically for the restaurant.
RÁ¶k will hold a soft launch before opening from 3 to 8 August, evenings only. Diners will receive a 50% discount on food.
