Richard Caring is Tories' biggest Q3 donor

Restaurateur Richard Caring was the biggest individual donor to the Conservative party during the third quarter of 2015, according to figures published by the Electoral Commission.

The restaurateur owns Caprice Holdings, which counts iconic restaurants The Ivy, Scott's, Le Caprice and J. Sheekey among its portfolio. Its most recent venture, Sexy Fish, opened in London's Berkeley Square last month (October 2015).

It was a non-cash donation, made up of auction prizes, the Electoral Commission documents noted.

In total, the Tories received £3.4m in donations in the third quarter, while Labour received £4m and the Liberal Democrats received £980,000.
