Phil Howard names new restaurant

Michelin-starred chef Philip Howard has unveiled details of his forthcoming joint-restaurant venture with London restaurateur Rebecca Mascarenhas.

Kitchen W8 will be an informal neighbourhood restaurant housed in the former site of Mascarenhas' Bistrot Eleven (previously Abingdon Road) in Kensington.

Head chef will be Mark Kempson, who previously worked with Howard as sous chef at the two-Michelin-starred Square for more than two years. Prior to that he worked at the Vineyard at Stockcross in Berkshire.

The restaurant's interiors will be designed by Claire Nelson of Nelson Design, whose previous projects have included The Square, La Trompette and The Ledbury.

Kitchen W8 is a partnership between Howard and Mascarenhas, owner of London neighbourhood restaurants Sonny's in Barnes and the Phoenix in Putney.

However, Howard will continue to oversee the day-to-day running of the Square, where he has been chef-proprietor since its launch in 1991.
