Nobu retains top spot in London Zagat guide

Nobu is London's most popular restaurant for the second year in a row, according to Zagat Survey's London Restaurant Guide 2005.

Matsuhisa: restaurant founder
Nobu Matsuhisa's Japanese fusion restaurant, set within the Metropolitan hotel on Old Park Lane, impressed customers with its great service, ambience and staff, topping the guide's 30-point review scale. The Wagamama noodle chain came in at second place, while perennial favourite, the Ivy, was third. The guide, which was launched on Tuesday (14 September) at London's Dorchester hotel, features more than 1,000 restaurants and takes on board the views of some 4,000 diners. Zagat found that 40% of those surveyed now ate out more than they did two years ago, enjoying an average of 2.4 restaurant meals a week, with the average cost now at £35.14 per head. Some 76% of diners thought smoking should be banned in restaurants, while a third stated they would dine out more often if a ban was in force. *Source: Caterer & Hotelkeeper magazine, 16 September 2004*
