MPW sells Wheeler's of St James's

Marco Pierre White has sold his Mayfair fish restaurant, Wheeler's of St James's, to ex-chef of the Belvedere, Matthew Brown.

Brown, 31, bought the lease from White for an undisclosed sum although he said it was "the bargain of a lifetime".

He left the Belvedere last month after White's long-standing partner, Jimmy Lahoud, took greater control of the restaurant and installed former L'Escargot chef Billy Reid at the helm.

Brown said there would be no significant changes at Wheeler's although the menu would be updated to try to attract a younger clientele alongside the regulars. The Oyster bar will now be open all day and will sell more draft beer, while the restaurant will increase the different types of fish it serves.

Wheeler's will be a family affair, with Brown heading up the kitchen helped by 21-year-old ex-Ramsay employee Lindsey Warshaw. Brown's wife, Lisa, will run front of house.
