Mark Lagun closes restaurant for double launch

Newcastle restaurateur Mark Lagun has closed his Barn@theBiscuit restaurant at the city's Biscuit Factory to launch two new operations.

Barn Under a Wandering Star will open on Saturday (25 March) on Jesmond Road on the east side of the city centre.

The new 70-seat restaurant will serve Pacific Rim food under the direction of head chef Brian James with an average spend of about £25 for three courses without wine.

Lagun's second new eaterie, Barn Asia, is scheduled to open in around six to eight week's time on Stowell Street in Newcastle's China Town.

Head chef Lucas Morrison has designed menus offering a range of South-east Asian tapas. Average spend will be about £25 a head.

"The idea is to get back to a more intimate atmosphere," Lagun said. "Hopefully people will come more often now there is more choice. We hope to open more Barn Asia restaurants if the concept is successful."
