Jason Atherton plans New York-style grill as sister to London's Maze

Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton is to launch a second Maze restaurant in London, Caterer can reveal.

Maze Grill, which is being developed under the Gordon Ramsay Holdings banner, will comprise an 85-seat casual-dining restaurant. It will be housed in the Marriott Grosvenor Square hotel, next to the existing Maze eaterie.

The restaurant, which will open on 1 March 2008, will be located on the site of the hotel's current Cobalt restaurant and will be designed by United Designers.

Atherton, who will oversee the menu of both Maze offerings at the hotel, said Maze Grill's menu will be modelled on New York-style grill eateries such as BLT Steak and BLT Prime.

"The menu will include salads, sandwiches and shared platters, but its focus will be on steak," he said.

"There will be a wide range of different cuts of steaks on offer and a butcher's table in the kitchen will offer diners the chance to learn all the different cuts and how to prepare steak."

Atherton announced the launch of a new branch of Maze in the Czech capital, Prague, last week. The 100-seat restaurant, which is due to open in October, will be located in the city's Renaissance hotel.
