James Horler joins Coal as non-exec chairman

Ego Restaurants chairman James Horler has joined Charterhouse Leisure, the firm behind the Coal Bar & Grill brand, as non-executive chairman.

Charterhouse Leisure was formed in 2007 by chief exective John Gater and currently operates seven restaurants, including SevernShed in Bristol. Private equity firms Beringea and Octopus VCT have both invested into the company.

Horler has been managing director of Frankie & Benny's and chief executive of La Tasca Group. He is also Chairman of Ego Restaurants and Cartwheel Recruitment.

Gater commented: "I am thrilled to have James joining our board and assisting us in growing the Coal brand throughout the UK and assisting us to achieve our business plan."

Horler added: "I am delighted to be working with John to develop the business and build the Coal brand into a restaurant company that has critical mass within the casual dining sector"
