Glynn Purnell set to open second restaurant
Michelin-starred chef Glynn Purnell, chef-patron of Purnell's in Birmingham is to open his second restaurant later this summer.
The two-time Great British Menu
The restaurant, The Asquith - named after the property's popular local name, Asquith House - will seat 34 diners and will be aimed at a more informal level of dining. It will be open Thursday - Sunday for lunch and Wednesday - Saturday evening for dinner.
The menu will be classic French cuisine reworked with Purnell's signature style. Dishes will include it's own-cured salmon with a classic sauce gribiche, with capers and herbs; poached egg, chorizo purée, a salad of cauliflower and spinach and a foam of goats' cheese. Desserts will include crème caramel with a pot of autumnal fruits and almond.
Purnell will be installing a head chef to oversee the kitchen at The Asquith, while he will remain behind the stove at Purnell's.
Purnell opened his eponymous restaurant in 2007 after receiving critical acclaim at Jessica's restaurant. He was the first chef in the city to win a Michelin star in 2005.
