Cumbria's Hazelmere café and bakery wins Top Afternoon Tea award 2006

The Hazelmere café and bakery in Cumbria has won the National Top Afternoon Tea Award 2006.

Now in their 21st year, the accolade is granted by the Tea Guild, which is part of the UK Tea Council.

Hazelmere café and bakery owners Dorothy and Ian Stubley impressed the judges by offering a huge range of teas sourced personally from around the world.

One inspector went as far as to say the cup of tea they were served was "out of this world".

38 tea rooms across the country were also granted awards of excellence in recognition of their high standards.

A team of mystery tea inspectors visited venues and hotels across the country to find the best afternoon tea experience, testing them on 17 criteria from décor and crockery to the variety of teas available.

Claridge's hotel in London was revealed as the best place in the Capital to have afternoon tea earlier this week.
