Chef slashes waiter with 12 inch meat knife

A chef has slashed a colleague across the stomach after a disagreement at a restaurant in Staffordshire.

According to the Wolverhampton Express & Star Mohibul Babul attacked waiter Nazim Miah with a 12 inch meat knife at the Easter memories restaurant in Bridgtown, Cannock.

Stafford Crown Court heard that Babul told police that he had tripped and stumbled.

Describing the incident to the court Miah said: "I could see him coming towards me with the knife he was using to cut the meat.

"He came to the side of me and slashed me on the right side of the stomach with the knife.

"I almost fainted and screamed at the same time.

"He was just standing there as though nothing had happened."

Days before the incident the pair had been separated by the restaurant manager, the court heard. Since the episode there was bad feeling between the pair, which culminated in the attack, Lisa Hancox, prosecuting, told the court.

She said that Miah suffered a cut to his side which had to be glued in hospital.

Babul denies a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.
