Chef Neil Rankin to open egg-based restaurant

Chef Neil Rankin is to open a London restaurant featuring dishes based around eggs.

Bad Egg in Moorgate will be an all-day dining concept, featuring egg-based dishes from around the world including a Korean hash, north African baked eggs and a redesigned full English breakfast.

Rankin, who is executive chef at the Smokehouse in Islington, told the Evening Standard he was "a bit of an egg pervert".

"My chefs get annoyed with me, and say whenever I change a dish I always just put an egg on it," he added.

As well as egg-based dishes, which include Indian and Malaysian inspired breakfasts, the menu at Bad Egg will include burgers and ribs, but no desserts.

Rankin said: "Brunch is the new thing. I try to think of what the next thing will be. I'd love to do an ordinary menu, but it never happens. I get carried away."
