Kenny and Abbie Atkinson opened the House of Tides in February 2014, and since then they have experienced phenomenal success, including a Michelin star, three AA rosettes and the 2015 Catey Newcomer Award.

The restaurant, set within an elegantly restored Grade I-listed, 16th-century building, is presented over two floors. It is designed to feel casual and informal and it showcases Kenny's celebrated cuisine and the dishes that helped him to get through to the final banquets of the 2009 and 2010 Great British Menu.

Kenny has garnered a reputation for using seasonal, quality ingredients from local producers to create food he describes as "classic with a modern twist".

Indeed, the Michelin Guide says his cuisine is "well-balanced, attractively presented and gives a nod to the north".

Kenny, who worked at Michelin-starred establishments including St Martin's on the Isle and Kenny Atkinson at the White Room at Seaham Hall before opening the House of Tides, has enjoyed an impressive career.

After leaving school he joined the Ravensdene Lodge hotel in Gateshead, an operation run by his uncle, and over two years he progressed to the role of trainee chef while taking on two National Vocational Qualifications at levels
one and two at Newcastle upon Tyne College.

In 1996 Kenny travelled to work in Malia, Crete for five months, and then returned home to take on the role of commis chef at the Vermont Hotel in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The following year, he progressed to chef de partie at Wood Norton Hall in Evesham, Worcester, before moving on to the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London, as first commis chef.

He then went on to other notable appointments, including junior sous chef at the London Marriott County Hall, sous chef at the Greenway Hotel, Shurdington, Gloucestershire, and sous chef at the Cotswold Hotel in Chipping Campden in Gloucestershire.

Kenny then returned to the Greenway hotel for his first head chef position. Over three years, he has won three AA rosettes.

He won his first Michelin star during his time at St Martin's hotel on the Isles of Scilly in 2006. In 2009, Kenny took on the role of head chef at the White Room at County Durham's Seaham Hall hotel and picked up the Hotel Chef of the Year Award (fewer than 250 covers) at the Hotel Cateys.

Later that year he was made director of food at a new five-star resort, Rockliffe Hall in County Durham.

To celebrate his success, The Caterer and CCS have come together to host the next Chef Eats Out at House of Tides on 6 February 2017, where diners will have the chance to try Kenny's nine-course spring tasting menu. The event for 45 diners will kick off at 12pm with lunch followed by a tour of the kitchen. The
event is expected to finish by 3pm.

Cancellations can be made without charge up until a week prior to the event. Then all cancellations will be charged at full price.
