Carluccio's boss to appear in Channel 4's Undercover Boss tonight

Carluccio's chief executive Simon Kossoff is set to appear on Channel 4 show Undercover Boss later today.

Airing at 9pm this evening, the show sees Kossoff go ‘back to the floor' at five of the casual dining group's sites.

In order to appear less recognisable, Kossoff (pictured) decided to sport a disguise including dyed black hair, rings, ear hoops, blue contact lenses and even a whole arm tattoo.

In a blog entry about the experience on the company's website, Kossoff said: "It's easy to think the work that the bosses do in the programme isn't real but mine certainly was. There are of course lots of stops to change the camera angle or do another interview but I really did work as a waiter, a bartender, a kitchen porter and a chef.

"The last time I did any of this was probably 10 or more years ago so the first challenge was getting used to being on my feet all day. It also brought back to me how difficult some of the jobs that we ask our teams to do actually are. It really is hot, fast and furious in the kitchen and the customers really can be demanding, even if they don't mean to be."

Kossoff will be holding a live Twitter question and answer session about the undercover experience at 10am tomorrow (Thursday 21 August), where participants can tweet @carluccioscaffe with the hashtag #UndercoverBoss.

Carluccio's has nearly 90 sites in the UK as well as a number of international locations in Qatar, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Ireland.

The company, originally founded as a food shop by Italian chef and restaurateur Antonio Carluccio and his wife in 1991, has grown rapidly since it opened its first caffe in 1999.

It continues to grow by around eight to 10 locations across the country per year.
