British restaurant Old Tom & English to launch in Soho

The brother and sister team behind Soho's the Arts Theatre Club cocktail bar are set to launch a new British restaurant in the area.

Costas and Maria Constantinou will open Old Tom & English in a basement space on Wardour Street, serving a British food menu, wines and vintage cocktails.

Maria Constantinou said: "Old Tom & English is all about a complete experience, celebrating British food, vintage cocktails and British design delivered in a modern way. It's Old Soho meets New Soho."

Sample dishes from the small plates menu include: battered fish and chips; Welsh rarebit; and jam roly poly alongside crispy cider braised pig cheeks with apple and fennel sauce; cornish scallops buerre blanc and crispy black pudding; and deep fried popcorn cockles.

The restaurant's name takes it cue from an 18th Century British ‘Old Tom' gin recipe, and its venue concept was designed by Lee Broom, who said he considered

Commenting on his inspiration for the design, Broom added: "I thought about the kind of personal service I like to receive in a venue and the theatre of creating drinks in front of you or presenting the food in a way, which considers its interior, like you would at home.

"The design has been created around those elements and much like the service informs the design, the design of the interior influences the service."
