500 McDonald's open doors to 2.4 customers

Fast-food giant McDonald's last week opened its doors to the public, but only 1,200 customers pre-booked a behind-the-scenes guided tour at 500 restaurants around the country.

The "Open Doors" day, which was initiated last year, took place on 16 June during Food Safety Week.

Andrew Taylor, chairman and chief executive officer of the fast-food giant, said: "A lot of people ask me what goes on behind the scenes in a McDonald's restaurant, particularly the ingredients we use, so now it's our opportunity to fling open the kitchen doors and let the public see for themselves."
