Police treating fire that burned down pub's £25,000 ‘secret garden' as arson

Police believe a fire that burned down a ‘secret garden' at the White Horse Tea Green pub near Luton was started deliberately and are treating it as arson.

The pub spent £25,000 on the new space ahead of its planned reopening for outside service on Thursday. It has since launched a crowdfund campaign to rebuild the space, which has raised £6,441 of its £10,000 goal.

The pub was still able to reopen earlier this week, as the main building and garden area were not affected.

It is believed the fire started at around 1am on 14 April. An investigation is under way and any witnesses or anyone with information should call the non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference 41/26964/21.

You can also report information online at herts.police.uk or speak to an operator via an online web chat. Alternatively, you can stay 100% anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via an untraceable online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
