Latest openings: Junsei, the Bailiwick Freehouse and more
A look at the latest restaurants, hotels, pubs and bars to open their doors.
Junsei
Junsei, a specialist yakitori restaurant in London's Marylebone, is opening next month. It is the first venture from chef Aman Lakhiani and his business partner, former Cinnamon Club and Kanishka general manager Rizwan Khan.
Junsei (meaning ‘pure' in Japanese), is opening at the former Romna site and will serve skewers grilled over Binchōtan – a white charcoal using Japanese oak – with more than 20 variations available, such as chicken meatball, thigh or heart. Eack yakitori skewer is coated in a house tare, an aged combination of soy sauce, sake, mirin and sugar or salt.
While the skewers are the main event, the menu also includes sharing plates, including wagyu seared at the table using the Binchōtan charcoal and clay pot rice dishes. An omakase or chef's menu will feature eight skewers paired with wines and sake or a soft tea. The drinks list will include sake and shochu and Japanese-inspired cocktails.
