Monopoly-inspired restaurant and bar to open in London's West End

A Monopoly-inspired restaurant and cocktail bar is to open in London next month on Tottenham Court Road, next door to the new Monopoly Lifesized attraction.

The Top Hat, owned by Gamepath Entertainment in partnership with Hasbro, will comprise a 70-cover restaurant and 47-cover cocktail bar and is due to open on 14 August. It is described as the first in a series of London venues dedicated to live gameplay.

Guests will be able to request a deck of ‘Monopoly deal' with their drink order to play a quick card version of the game.

Designed to reflect the game's origins, the interiors will feature Art Deco references and statement chandeliers as well as nods to the board game itself. Vintage bank vaults will line the walls while designer Faber will also use reclaimed fabrics from the Piccadilly and Northern underground lines.

The menu will be a British small plates concept, including miniature versions of hearty classics such as a roast of rump steak, parsnip mash and a mini Yorkshire pudding; stuffed pork belly and apple sauce; Wye Valley lamb with minted jus; and fish and chips. Desserts will include nostalgic puddings such as Sutton Farm Orchard crumble, lemonade meringue pie and English strawberries and cream Eton mess.

Each cocktail will represent London properties, such as a Leicester Square red carpet daiquiri, and a Trafalgar Square lychee and rose pearl martini. Euston Road's cocktail will pay homage to the NHS, inspired by the first women's hospital entirely staffed by women, garnished with a ‘thank you NHS' note and a £2 donation from every drink going to an NHS charity.

Joseph R Smith, director of F&B at the Top Hat, said: "So many of us have fond memories of playing the iconic game, be it with grandparents in our childhood or over drinks with friends in our adult lives. The Top Hat's convivial dining concept was conceived to encourage people to come together again, for what we hope will be a delicious nostalgic trip down memory lane.

"For some, the London version of the board game was their first experience of the capital. We're excited to be part of the journey as London slowly comes back to life and to be opening a hospitality venture that celebrates the city and its wonderfully rich heritage. We can't wait to welcome Londoners, and in time visitors from further afield for a memorable drinking and dining experience of whimsical luxury, fit for Mr Monopoly himself."
