Yabu Pushelberg named designer of Edwardian London Group's new hotel
International design firm Yabu Pushelberg has been appointed to create a world-class "luxury lifestyle" concept at the new 360-bedroom hotel being developed by the Edwardian Group London in Leicester Square.
Based in New York and Toronto and founded by George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg, Yabu Pushelberg is best known in the UK for its collaboration with Ian Schrager on the London Edition, which opened to great acclaim last year. The company is currently working on the Miami Edition with Schrager and has previously been responsible for designing the Four Seasons Toronto and the St Regis San Francisco.
Jasminder Singh, chief executive of Edwardian Group London, said that while the company has previously been focused on the capital, the new hotel will enable it to compete with the world's best lifestyle and business hotels.
"The appointment of Yabu Pushelberg reinforces our professional design team and commitment to reaching ‘best in class' for this new hotel," he said. "They will ensure our product stands out in a crowded market and will retain its value for our guests and the city for years to come."
Glenn Pushelberg added: "We are very excited about the potential for this project and developing the brief given to us by Edwardian Group London. We have a real opportunity to tell stories through our design of this development, utterly reflecting its key position in London's West End. Our hope is to create an environment that people won't want to leave!"
Standing on the south west corner of Leicester Square on the site of the Radission Blu Edwardian Leicester Square hotel and Odeon cinema, the hotel, will feature a range of restaurant, lounge, and bar areas, as well as two cinemas, a resort-style spa and swimming pool. It is due to open in 2017.
The Edwardian Group London currently owns and operates 14 hotels: 13 under the Radission Blu Edwardian brand, as well as the unbranded May Fair hotel.
