UK B&Bs are best in the world, say TripAdvisor awards
The top two B&Bs in the world are in Dorset and North Yorkshire respectively, according to this year's 12th annual TripAdvisor Traveller's Choice Awards.
Bindon Bottom B&B in West Lulworth, Dorset, came top of the worldwide list from the global review site, while the All Seasons Guest House Filey, North Yorkshire came second.
The UK was well represented in the list of the world's top B&Bs overall, with six of the top ten spots scooped by properties in North Yorkshire, Cumbria and East Ayrshire. Saxon Villa in North Yorkshire came fourth, Linnett Hill in Cumbria scooped sixth place, Dumfries House Lodge in East Ayrshire came eighth, and Millgate Bed & Breakfast in North Yorkshire was placed ninth.
Other entries in the global top ten B&Bs included properties in the USA, Thailand and Morocco.
Owners of overall winner Bindon Bottom B&B Lisa and Clive Orchard, said: "We're thrilled to be recognised in the 2014 Travellers' Choice Awards. Providing our guests with the best possible experience is of the up-most importance to us, and so it's genuinely heart-warming to be recognised by our guests for the work we do to make their stay special."
Overall, the UK also performed extremely well in nearly all world categories, with 26 properties across all the 2014 world lists, up from 14 in 2013. Globally, only Italy had more award-winners than in the UK.
On the world luxury list, The Chester Residence in Edinburgh took third place, while among the global bargain list, the Lauriston Court Hotel, Llandudno came third.
No UK hotels featured in the top ten best world hotels list, which was topped by Switzerland retreat Grand Hotel Kronenhof, Pontresina. The Upper House, Hong Kong, and the Gili Lankanfushi Maldives came second and third respectively.
The Milestone Hotel in London was named the best hotel in the UK, closely followed by Rudding Park, Harrogate, and Coworth Park, Ascot.
Unsurprisingly, the world's best B&Bs also topped the UK's best B&B list, but the top ten also included Millgate Bed & Breakfast, North Yorkshire; Hawkins of Bath, Somerset; Bod Gwynedd Bed & Breakfast, Wales; Plas Dinas Country House, Wales; and Southern Breeze Lodge, Dorset.
The UK's best small hotels list was led by the third-best world luxury site The Chester Residence. Castlecroft, Scotland and the Elmdene, Devon took second and third place.
TripAdvisor is a worldwide website that allows members to post reviews of restaurants, hotels and attractions. It features more than 125 million reviews, operates in 34 countries, and receives 260 million unique monthly visitors.
