Tune Hotels to expand to Newcastle

Malaysian-based budget brand Tune Hotels is to open its first English property outside of London, in Newcastle.

The 104-bedroom Tune Hotel Newcastle will feature a coffee shop area and be located in the Quayside area of the city in an Edwardian building, Proctor House.

Work is currently underway on developing the hotel, which is set to open in October 2014.

Later this year will also see the opening of the 130-bedroom Tune Hotel Canary Wharf, London.

Founded by Tony Fernandes, the owner of Queen's Park Rangers FC, and Kamarudin Meranun with the opening of its first property in Kuala Lumpur in 2007, Tune Hotels operates on the limited service model of low cost airlines. It currently has 40 hotels worldwide.
