TRI HotStats: monthly European hotel figures
London continued to outperform the European market in November 2009, according to the monthly HotStats survey.
Hotels in the UK capital achieved the highest occupancy (of 88.2%), the highest revenue per available room (€144.18) and the highest gross operating profit (or goppar) of €113.25.
London's average room rate, of €163.44, was bettered only by Paris while its payroll as a percentage of turnover, at 20.4%, was the lowest of the 10 cities surveyed.
Berlin was the only other country to increase its profitability in November, with goppar rising by 19.5% to €82.02 to put it in second place after London. Performance was boosted by the influx of two million visitors celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Wall.
Six countries (Barcelona, Budapest, Munich, Prague, Vienna and Warsaw) saw profitability plunge by double-digit percentages.
The figures are compiled each month by Tri Hospitality Consulting.
