Travelodge to open second Edinburgh hotel
Budget hotel chain Travelodge has unveiled plans to open a second hotel in Edinburgh.
The company has agreed a 35-year lease on the former Edinburgh Greens Swallow hotel in the Scottish capital's West End.
It said it would invest £1.7m turning the 55-room property into a 72-bed hotel, due to open in November.
Tony O'Brien, development director at Travelodge, said: "We fought off some tough competition to secure this new hotel, so are delighted to establish a stronger presence in the city, in a fantastic location.
"Like London, Edinburgh is a major European tourist destination, which generates huge demand for quality budget hotel accommodation. We are looking forward to providing this by offering rooms from as little as £15 per night."
The announcement follows Travelodge's recent acquisition of a new site at Edinburgh Airport for an 86-room hotel. Travelodge already operates the Travelodge Edinburgh Central Hotel.
