Thompson to add to portfolio
US boutique hotel group Thompson Hotels is launching an aggressive expansion programme which will see it go from two to six properties by the year-end.
The group, which owns hotels in New York and Miami, took over the management of Hollywood's famous Hotel Roosevelt last month.
The 240-bedroom property, which also has 60 poolside suites, was the original site for the Oscars, and is currently undergoing a $20m (£10.6m) renovation expected to be finished by the end of next month.
A second new property, Six Columbus, will open in Columbus Circle, New York, in July. Thompson Hotels bought the 90-unit hotel, formerly called West Park, in 2001 for an undisclosed sum. It's currently undergoing a $14m (£7.4m) conversion.
Also under development is a third new hotel planned for Allen Street in Lower East Side New York. The unnamed new-build site is expected to cost $40m (£21.3m), and will open in summer 2006.
Further projects include a multi-thousand guest room and casino hotel in Las Vegas, a second Beverly Hills property, and a London site next year.
