Strong performance by Glasgow hotels ahead of Commonwealth Games

Glasgow hotels enjoyed a strong performance during May ahead of the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in the city, according to the latest Hot Stats UK Chain Hotel Market Review.

Total revenue per available room (trevpar) and gross operating profit per available room (goppar) grew by 14.1% and 27.6% respectively. Meanwhile, occupancy increased 4.7% percentage points to 85.2%, while average room rate climbed by 11.9% to £75.41, leading to an impressive revpar growth of 18.4% to £64.25.

Non-rooms revenues also performed strongly with meeting room hire per available room increasing by 17% and as a result, trevpar went up by 14.1% to £109.81. Cost control helped to enhance the overall performance with departmental operating profit per available room growing 16.3% to £64.03.

The Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow from 23 July to 3 August.
