Stephen Carter honoured with HIT Scotland Industry award

Stephen Carter was honoured with the HIT Scotland Industry award at the charity's industry dinner last week.

The former Hotelier of the Year, who is managing director of the Old Course hotel and spa in St Andrews, was handed the award at the HIT Scotland industry dinner held at the Glasgow Hilton on 8 June.

Over £56,000 was raised at the celebratory event through a charity auction, while the evening was also an opportunity to congratulate the 25 adventurers who had trekked a section of the Great Wall of China to raise money to support the creation of 218 emerging talent hospitality scholarships.

The Industry award recognises an individual who has demonstrated commitment to the industry above and beyond their day to day job.

Carter was chair of HIT Scotland for 12 years before handing over the reigns to Crerar hotel group chief executive Paddy Crerar in 2013. He was also managing director and then chairman of De Vere Cameron House on Loch Lomond from 2008 to 2015, before joining the Old Course hotel and spa in St Andrews where he is currently overseeing a £17m refurbishment.

HIT Scotland chief executive David Cochrane said: "The award was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the commitment and enthusiasm that Stephen Carter has always demonstrated for the industry."
